Common Problems

Why Consultants need a better billing system

⏱️

Time spent on billing instead of consulting

Creating invoices in Word or Excel, formatting PDFs, emailing them separately — it wastes 30–60 minutes per invoice. That time should be billable hours.

🧾

Corporate clients require proper GST invoices

Management consultants, IT consultants, and strategy advisors primarily serve B2B clients who need a valid tax invoice with GSTIN, SAC code, and CGST/SGST breakdown for their ITC claims.

📅

Retainer clients need recurring monthly invoices

If you have clients on monthly retainers, creating the same invoice format every month manually is error-prone and easy to forget.

💸

Late payments disrupt project planning

Consulting projects often have milestone-based billing. Without a clear invoice with a due date, payment follow-up becomes awkward and delays your cash flow.

How Ozydo Helps

Built for Consultants — not generic business software

1

Professional Consulting Invoice Templates

7 premium PDF templates designed to look credible for B2B consulting clients — clean, modern layouts with your logo, GSTIN, and payment details.

2

Milestone-Based Invoicing

Create separate invoices for each project milestone — discovery, design, delivery, review. Track which milestones are paid and which are pending.

3

Retainer Invoice with Notes

Use the Notes field to specify the retainer period, scope of work covered, and carry-forward hours. Clients appreciate clear monthly billing statements.

4

GSTIN & SAC Code on Every Invoice

Your consulting invoices automatically show the correct SAC code (998311 for business consulting, 998313 for IT consulting) and CGST/SGST or IGST split.

5

Payment Reminders via WhatsApp

Set up auto-reminders for overdue invoices. Ozydo sends WhatsApp reminders 3 days before and on the due date — no awkward manual follow-up calls.

6

GSTR-1 Export for Your CA

Export all your consulting invoices in GSTR-1 format as a JSON or CSV for your chartered accountant. Reduces quarterly filing time significantly.

GST for Consultants

Consulting services attract 18% GST. SAC code 998311 covers most management and business consulting. IT consulting is SAC 998313. If you work with government or public sector clients (inter-state), your invoice should show IGST instead of CGST+SGST. Many consultants earning above ₹20 lakh voluntarily register for GST even early in their career — it makes you more credible to corporate clients who want to claim ITC.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What SAC code should a management consultant use?+
SAC 998311 covers management consulting and business process consulting. IT consultants and software consultants should use SAC 998313. Strategy consultants and HR consultants generally use 998311. Check the CBIC SAC booklet for your specific sub-category.
Do I charge GST on a consulting invoice to an overseas client?+
If your overseas client is located outside India and you receive payment in foreign exchange, the supply qualifies as export of services and is zero-rated under GST. File an LUT on the GST portal to avoid charging IGST and to claim ITC refunds on your input expenses.
Can I send recurring monthly invoices to retainer clients?+
Currently Ozydo does not have automatic recurring invoices — you create each month's invoice manually. However, you can duplicate the previous month's invoice with one tap, change the date, and send. It takes under 1 minute per client.
My client deducts TDS before paying my consulting invoice. How do I handle this?+
Corporate clients deduct 10% TDS under Section 194J on payments to consultants above ₹30,000. You can note the TDS deduction in the payment record in Ozydo. The TDS will be reflected in Form 26AS and credited against your income tax liability when you file your ITR.
